As a newborn portrait photographer, I am always with new and expecting Moms.  I love taking advice from new Moms, who are in the thick of things, and with that in mind, I decided to compile a list of 10 Helpful Things To Bring To The Hospital When You are Expecting!  Knowing what to bring to the hospital when you are giving birth is super helpful!  You will be there a few days, so this list will help you remember items to bring when the time comes!

I really preferred to wear my own pajamas and robe and had ones that I was able to nurse in after the baby arrived. I also brought my slippers and fuzzy socks, which were so helpful to be able to slip on after birth and walk around. My feet swelled up and slippers made it easy to just slip them on when I wanted to go on a walk. Just be prepared that you might get blood on them.

2- My Camera and Cell Phone with Charger
This is a very important thing to pack! This is a very special moment in your life and recording it on film to forever have, is something you will cherish for years to come! Make sure your camera’s battery is fully charged and you have the sd card in the camera. Also your cell phone and charger. Cell phones these days take beautiful pictures, so if you don’t have a good camera, your cell phone can take it’s place and you can post right to Facebook if you so desire! 🙂

3-Toiletries
Packing your own shampoo , toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup, brush, hair dryer etc..
I remember how good that first shower felt after giving birth and having my own toiletries there was so nice, especially my makeup as we had quite a few visitors and I felt better with a little makeup! 🙂

4-My Own Pillow
I have a favorite pillow and it was so nice to have it at the hospital to make sleeping easier and just having something from home, made it so much easier to stay in hospital.

5-Snacks
Having snacks that I enjoyed vs. hospital food was so much nicer. Hospital food is not the greatest, so bring some of your snacks from home! You will thank me later! It also helped that we had snacks for my husband to eat too!

6- Pads And Extra Underwear That Can Be Thrown Away
Hospital pads and their underwear are not the most comfortable. Having your own will be a life saver…. trust me!!

7- Baby Items
We brought several outfits, but had one in mind for the baby to wear home. We also knew they would be coming around in the hospital to take portraits. We also brought a blanket that was special and a pacifier. Hospitals don’t usually provide them and we sure needed one.

8- An Extra Bag and Folder
We had extra items from the hospital and having a folder was helpful to keep all the important paperwork you will be receiving. You will be receiving blankets, formula and different hospital items, as well as some visitors might bring you items and having an extra bag was so helpful to be able to take them all home.

9- A Nursing Pillow
If you plan on nursing. It was so helpful when learning how to nurse, as well as for nursing while staying in the hospital.

10- Books And Magazines
You will be in labor for quite a while, especially with your first. So, having something to do while you are at the hospital was helpful.
